Why Am I Happy?

We forge truth in the simplest things — needing not, a complicated life to find it because happiness is always alive in the raw moments. Happiness is our truth.

Sonja Lyubomirsky, professor of psychology at the University of California, says happiness is, “the experience of joy, contentment, or positive well-being, combined with a sense that one’s life is good, meaningful, and worthwhile.”

Happiness lives in the understated — many times in our overlooked moments. Yes, sometimes I’ve looked for happiness in the places that brought me more into numbness rather than awareness of my truth. But then, like you, I regroup.

Frequently I’m asked why I seem happy.

I don’t think of myself as a naturally happy person, I’m not overly talkative or smiley. I’m SO not that jump our of bed with exuberance man! I think I look rather grumpy at times. But the seekers of happiness seem to know I possess “something” more.

The truth is that happiness is alive, chemically occurs in our sensing — the small actions that garner no audience.

Explain, you say?

I find happiness in recognizing there is possibility in today. Happiness lives in possibility. It lives in our recognition, breathing it —feeling it.

Happiness sits with us under the starry sky as we try to process infinite space. It speaks to us through the sight of a squirrel waiting for a peanut or in the seed that just thawed now ready for the warmth of spring to crack it open.

Happiness is happy moments. The moments that create a state —of mind. It’s our taking part in the silent moments, listening to the ever-flowing voice of knowledge present in all things.

In appreciation, in awe, in trust, in the promise of Hope.

The truth is vibrant —not numb.

It is not really in remembering, I find it mostly in my current experiences of humble observation. I feel happy, not so much in the big, but the seemingly small things. Yes, the bigness of LIFE is lived through the small.

I am happy in the brightness of simplicity. Are you?

Namaste.
